BRAIN FOOD: FUELLING YOUNG MINDS
At Creed Foodservice, we pride ourselves on being much more than just a foodservice provider.
As an independent, family owned food wholesaler, we aim to partner with our customers, to understand their challenges and deliver a solutions based approach.
Brain Food Menu & Recipe Solutions
BOTH DELICIOUS & NUTRITIOUS
We know that students who eat well, learn better. Our Development Chefs have worked alongside a renowned dietitian, to develop a school menu packed with brain friendly nutrients.
These dishes incorporate flavours which are popular amongst students as well as being simple for catering teams to deliver.
The menu is all HFSS compliant and the food dishes have green and amber nutritional traffic lights, meaning they aren’t classified as ‘high’ in fat, saturates, sugars or salt.

WORKING WITH EXPERTS
Our development chefs have worked closely with Juliette Kellow, a renowed registered dietitian with a passion for nutrition for young people, to develop a practical menu solution that puts brain health first.
We've designed a menu and recipes that not only adhere to budgets and skill sets in school environments, but also contain sufficient amounts of important micro and macronutrients that support brain and cognitive function, helping to improve concentration and learning.

Juliette's Brain Friendly Top Tips
1. Encourage Regular Meals
Skipping meals can lead to hunger, irritability, tiredness, and poor concentration, affecting students' behaviour and performance. Offer and promote nutritious breakfasts and snacks to keep them energised.
2. Include Fibre-Rich Starches
Foods like wholemeal bread, oats, and brown rice provide a steady release of energy, B vitamins that support psychological function, and help students feel fuller longer.
3. Combine Iron with Vitamin C
Iron supports cognitive function but plant sources are better absorbed when paired with vitamin C. Include sources like, beans and lentils with peppers or citrus fruits.
4. Prioritise Fish
Fish offers nutrients crucial for brain health, such as iodine and omega-3 fats. Regularly serve a variety of fish dishes.
5. Stay Hydrated
Dehydration can impair focus and mood. Milk is an excellent drink option, providing calcium for nerve function, iodine for cognition, and B vitamins for the nervous system.
