FSA Issues Peanut Contamination Warning

UPDATE 14th November 2024:

The FSA have completed their investigations in to peanut contaminations and have the lifted their precautionary advice to people with peanut allergies to avoid foods that contain or may contain mustard.

They do however still advise that those with peanut allergies to continue to avoid identified products listed on the allergy alerts. At Creed Foodservice, we do not stock any of these affected products.

BREAKING 23rd September 2024: The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has recently issued a critical warning for individuals with peanut allergies regarding potential contamination of mustard products with peanuts. This alert was triggered after mustard ingredients, such as mustard powder and flour used in dips, sauces and pre-packed sandwiches, were found to be contaminated with peanuts. The source of the contamination was traced back to GT Agro Industries in India, which has then infiltrated our UK supply chain and many of the products we regularly serve and consume that contain traces of mustard (Anaphylaxis UK) (Global Food Consumers Forum).

For restaurants, schools and any other form of food provider, this raises serious concerns about food safety and the importance of protecting individuals with allergies. If there is a risk that mustard could be unintentionally present in food there will be a ‘may contain’ label for mustard. There is no legal requirement to remove mustard containing products from sale at this stage, just to advise any consumers with peanut allergies to avoid consumption.

If you wish to find out more information about the products you purchase or have queries on what may contain mustard please do not hesitate to contact our customer service team who will be more than happy to help.
