We’re delighted to announce ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ status for our Staverton, Gloucestershire and Ilkeston, Derbyshire sites.

Grundon Waste Management, Cheltenham officially certified that we’d achieved 100% treatment and zero waste to landfill of non-hazardous waste generated for its Staverton depot on the 1st September 2016. Our Ilkeston site has been recognised as zero to landfill for the last two years.

The company had its first environmental review in 2011, successfully obtaining the ISO14001 environmental management standard. Five years on we continue to invest in environmentally friendly practices including recycling stations in all warehouses and offices for all materials including plastics, glass, and paper, tin and cardboard. Creed Foodservice are also founder signatories to the WRAP Hospitality and Food Service Agreement which is designed to make considerable improvements in the reduction of waste and recycling of material throughout the sector’s supply chain.

Since 2011, continual improvements in waste management have led to a year on year reduction in the amount of waste being sent to landfill. To now be entirely free to land fill is a great achievement for Creed Foodservice and a reflection on the company’s investment and commitment to sustainable practices of waste disposal.

Waste is now taken to an energy waste plant in Bristol; an environmentally efficient way of handling waste material. Generating energy from waste has a positive impact on the environment and provides a ‘greener’ solution by minimising landfill waste that causes pollution, whilst enhancing renewable energy sources such as heat and electricity to increase sustainability.

From a customers’ point of view, using a food wholesaler with a proactive green ethos can assist with their own green story and environmental credentials. Consumers are more interested in the way their food is produced and conscious of responsible sourcing. Customers benefit from being able to use Creed Foodservice’s green attributes as a point of differentiation.

“We take our responsibilities to the environment seriously and strive to make our business as energy efficient and sustainable as possible. Our environmental action plan focuses on continuous improvement in areas such as vehicle and building emissions and monitoring waste.

“Policies already introduced include low emission company cars and regular food waste collections for our in-house development kitchen. We also donate in date, ‘short life’ food to local charities such as The Wiggly Worm. Being certified as a zero waste to landfill business was the next step and recognises our efforts to improve our operating environment for the benefit of our customers, staff, communities and suppliers.”
